Transitions Europe – London 7th September
We welcomed 65 participants to London for Transitions Europe on 7th September 2017, for a program of 14 presentations by researchers, keynote presentations by Prof. Stephen Heppell and Diana Bannister and scene setting presentations by architect Michal Cohen and Julie Velissaratou of the OECD Learning Environments Evaluation Program. A great summary of the event and presentations here by Nina Persson Kerr, of our partner Ecophon.
The scope and depth of information presented was enhanced by robust discussion and enthusiastic networking of participants. Many expressed the need for more opportunities for discussion of research and practices in design and development of learning spaces that crossed disciplinary, sector and professional boundaries. The roughly equal representation in the audience of practitioners and researchers from the disciplines of design and education enabled balanced and informed discussion.
The presentations from graduate researchers from across Europe provided insights into the development of learning environments in 10 countries and covered a wide range of topics including teacher practice, lighting, design approaches, acoustics, student learning, teacher collaboration, evaluation frameworks and pedagogy. Each session included a discussion session, led by interlocutors who provided provocation and context for audience input.
Check out the twitter moments here and presenters slides here. A number of presenters will also be contributing guest blog posts in the coming weeks. The full papers will be published in the event proceedings (out in early 2018) and a selection of extended papers in a book ‘Teacher transition into Innovative Learning Environments’ (due out in late 2018).
