Transitions North America – 14th September
Following on from the European event the team travelled to Grand Rapids, Michigan – home of Steelcase Education our research partner, who hosted Transitions North America at the Steelcase Innovation Centre, with support from sponsor DLR group.
The 65 participants from across the USA and Canada included educators, school leaders, consultants, designers, architects and researchers. The program featured 11 presentations by graduate researchers from USA and Canada, inspiring keynotes by Dr Pam Moran and Dr Julie Marshall with a presentation by Pam Loeffelman, DLR Group on the state of play in school design. Read a great summary by Raechel French of DLR Group/ILETC and Dr Robert Talbert.
The presentations covered a diverse range of topics and education settings, including museums, primary, secondary and higher education settings. The discussions that followed highlighted the importance of building a shared language, constraints of policy and funding, space as an agent for change, student agency and non-traditional spaces.
Check out the twitter moments here and presenters slides here. A number of presenters will also be contributing guest blog posts in the coming weeks. The full papers will be published in the event proceedings (out in early 2018) and a selection of extended papers in a book ‘Teacher transition into Innovative Learning Environments’ (due out in late 2018).
